The Things I Wish People Knew About Therapy
My aim is always to provide information about what therapy has to offer and insights into how therapy sessions work. There are many misconceptions about therapy and therapists. One of the big ones is that we are only in it for the money, and the moment a client leaves, we don’t think about them until the next session. The truth is, we cannot work that closely with someone and not care or be impacted by them in some way.
Therapy Doesn't Always Feel Good!
In some sessions, we will see massive changes and/or growth. Others can feel like a step back; this could depend on what you bring to each session. AND why we review where you are and what you are working on at regular intervals.
Face-to-face Therapy Works; However, So Does Online!
Both face-to-face and online therapy work. It is about personal preference and logistics. However, not all therapists offer in-person sessions and not all therapists offer online.
The Relationship Is Key!
The relationship that is built between you and your therapist is the single most important aspect of therapy, and not the modality or level of qualification.
We Think About You Between Sessions!
Therapy isn't just the hour you are paying for; there are ethical obligations, such as supervision, where we will ensure we are working with your best intentions, reading about the latest research that could be relevant to your case.
Furthermore, you will also feature in our minds whilst we carry out tasks in our daily life, such as:
💡We see something that reminds us of you
💡 We wonder how that date, job interview
💡 We watch a TV or film you’ve recommended or we think “I wander if ______ has seen this yet, I think they’d like it”
